Wild Asteria

Who I Am

My name is Ann Marie Maly. I am an artist from Cincinnati, Ohio. I am currently settled down for a bit in Red River Gorge, Kentucky. I work as an Experience Manager and Designer at an amazing wedding venue in the heart of Red River Gorge called Events at Hemlock Springs. I have been creating art for as long as I can remember. I studied Art History, Classical Civilizations, and Art Education at the University of Cincinnati through DAAP and the Classics department.

My Story

Before settling down for a bit in RRG, I was an inner-city junior-high school teacher. I taught mainly history and art. After a handful of years teaching, I needed a well-deserved break. I began working at Miguel’s Pizza in Red River Gorge and traveling all over the states. I have been rock climbing for ten years and I saw this “sabbatical” as the perfect opportunity to travel the country and climb in some incredible places. Sabbaticals never need to end ;)

Inspiration

All of my jewelry is handmade, woven bead by bead or forged with fire. I use Japanese and Czech seed beads, copper, sterling silver and natural stones. I am inspired by the beautiful landscapes and people around me. My brand name and all earrings are named after Greek and Roman gods and goddesses. I figured I should use my Classical history degree for something! The name “Asteria” comes from the lesser known goddess of nocturnal oracles and falling stars.

This is me! I am climbing in Central Oregon in Smith Rock State Park. I am wearing my favorite earring, the Phoebus dangle.
